Highlights: The sweet Galaxy Cake Pops are definitely not a flop for Star Wars fans. The sweet cake pops with mirror glaze frosting look like little planets and taste like they are out of this world. The name “Mirror Glaze” comes from the fact that the glaze forms a shiny, mirror-like surface after it is applied to the pastry. This effect is achieved by using gelatin, which gives the icing a thick consistency while reflecting light. With the right food coloring and a little glitter, it looks like you're taking a look into a distant galaxy.

The sweet cake pops with mirror glaze frosting look like little planets and taste like they are out of this world.

A long time ago (around 2010) cake pops, i.e. small cakes on a stick, were really trendy. Small, handy and easy to bite into - a delicious, sweet snack for in between meals. In general, all treats on a stick are perfect for a picnic or party: fruit salad on a stick, antipasti skewers or potato and sausage skewers. Speaking of partying - today is a good day for it, at least for all Star Wars fans, because on May 4th everyone around the world pays homage to George Lucas's films based on his epic space saga.

For delicious Star Wars-themed cake pops that will be the envy of the entire empire, decoration is particularly important. The magic word here is “Mirror Glaze”.

That's how it's done:

These ingredients are needed for the galactically good cake pops:

  • Cake pops:

  • 60 g butter, soft

  • 80g powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 150 g cream cheese

  • 300 g cake base

  • 40g white chocolate

  • Mirror Glaze:

  • 6 tbsp cold water

  • 1 packet of gelatine, ground

  • 150ml water

  • 40g sugar

  • 100 ml sweetened condensed milk

  • 200 white chocolate, finely chopped

  • Food coloring (e.g. blue, turquoise, purple)

  • Glitter powder

  • Aside from that:

  • 12 cake pop sticks

The preparation is not as difficult as it might seem:

  • For the cake pops:

Mix soft butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and cream cheese until there are no more lumps. Crumble the cake base finely with your hands and fold in the cream cheese mixture. Knead until the dry and wet ingredients are well mixed.

  • Using your hands or a small ice cream scoop, form the dough into 12 equal-sized balls. Chill for 30 minutes before further processing.

  • Melt white chocolate (40 g). First dip the cake pop sticks (or wooden skewers) into the melted chocolate and then stick them into the cake balls. This way the stems will stick better to the cake pops later. Chill for another 2 hours.

  • For the Mirror Glaze Frosting:

Allow the gelatine to soak in 6 tablespoons of cold water for five minutes according to the package instructions. Bring 150 ml water, sugar and condensed milk to the boil in a small saucepan. Remove the pan from the heat and add the swollen gelatine. Stir until everything is well mixed.

  • Finely chop the white chocolate and place it in a bowl. Pour the hot liquid through a sieve into the chocolate and stir until a homogeneous* mass is formed.

  • Add food coloring drop by drop to the glaze, do not stir. Dip the cold cake pops into the chocolate and twist as you remove them to form a marbled pattern. Decorate with glitter powder or sprinkles as desired.

  • Allow to dry completely before consumption.

  • Relish!

    Tip:

If you still see any lumps, simply mix with a hand blender until smooth. The smoother the glaze, the nicer the mirror glaze effect.
