In Potsdam, in July 1945, after having laid the foundations of what in their eyes should be the main outlines of the post-war period, the “Big Three” (Americans, Soviets and British) finally parted on good terms: Germany was occupied and disarmed, it was going to be denazified, and its industry largely dismantled.
