In the spirit of "the world will end in ice", Ghostbusters: Glacial Menace directed by Gil Kenan arrives in theaters on April 11th, distributed by Eagle Pictures, in which old and new marry as if forty years had not passed. In short, the franchise once again shows all its vitality with the story of the Spengler family who returns to where it all began, the New York City fire station, to collaborate with the real Ghostbusters, who in the meantime have developed a research laboratory top-secret to take ghost slaying to the next level. But the discovery of an ancient artifact, a copper sphere filled with disturbing symbols, unleashes an army of ghosts led by a super ghost, Garraka, a horned god who can chill people to the bone with the power of fear itself.
This film arrives after the 2021 Ghostbusters: Legacy revival which had taken up the threads of the two original films released in the 1980s. This time we find Callie (Carrie Coon), the daughter of the deceased Egon Spengler, who together with her children Trevor (Finn Wolfhard, Mike from Stranger Things) and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and the strange professor Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) thinks well of reconnect with his father's old colleagues, Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson). Luckily, on their side there is Nadeem (Kumail Nanjiani) who turns out to be that 'master of fire', the only one capable of fighting the long-horned super ghost. Picking up the baton of a Ghostbusters film is a responsibility director Gil Kenan doesn't take lightly. "Ghostbusters sets a very high bar - he says -. Every film in the series that came before always has indelible cinematic moments. In short, we all aimed high to create a film worthy of the Ghostbusters logo with the right spirit of improvisation, fluency, sense of play and life in front of the camera. Almost as if we wanted to capture the lighting in a bottle enough to be able to say: it's a Ghostbusters."
And the proceeds prove that it was a successful operation for the happiness of millions of fans around the world. In the United States, Ghostbusters: Glacial Menace leads the top ten, with 45.2 million dollars (the data is updated four days ago). This is the second best debut of the franchise and still higher than the $44 million collected by Ghostbusters: Legacy in the fall of 2021. On the international front, Ghostbusters: Ice Menace will have a progressive distribution, so far it has been released in twenty-five territories grossing $16.4 million , 15% more than its predecessor. The film cost around $100 million.
