It all starts in September 2023, when Joe Jonas announces that he has filed for divorce. “After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the couple said in a joint statement on Instagram. “We sincerely hope that everyone can respect our privacy wishes for us and our children.”

But this apparent good understanding quickly gave way to a merciless and not-so-confidential legal battle, with the two parties unable to agree on the future place of residence of their daughters.
A legal attack for “illegal retention”
Very quickly after the announcement of the divorce, Sophie Turner sued her ex-partner for "illegal retention": she then accused him of having hidden her daughters' passports and of not having kept them in the United States and of not not having sent them as planned to the United Kingdom, where she now resides.
Tensions finally eased (for a time) in October 2023 when a temporary custody agreement was agreed after “productive and successful mediation”. “We look forward to being good co-parents,” they said at the time. In January 2024, Sophie Turner even decided to drop the charges against her ex-husband.
But the truce was ultimately short-lived, with the reactivation of the divorce procedure on March 19. “The filing was a legal formality and the couple continues to negotiate an amicable resolution,” a representative for Joe Jonas nevertheless indicated in a press release.
