A lot changes for drivers in Germany in April - even before the start of the journey. But some drivers should also pay more attention behind the wheel.
Munich – Spring doesn’t just have good weather in store for drivers. In addition to switching to summer tires, a lot more changes behind the wheel. On April 1st, several new changes will come into force that will affect driving - one even before you are even allowed to drive.

If you want to drive a car, you need a driving license - there are now even new EU driving licenses. To get it, you have to pass a theoretical and a practical test. portal explains, the questions on the theoretical driving test always change on April 1st and October 1st. And there is another innovation for drivers that becomes noticeable even before driving - and that is at the gas station.
From April 1st, the new diesel varieties B10, HVO and XTL will be available at German gas stations. They are intended to help make driving with a diesel engine more environmentally friendly. The new fuels will then gradually be available at over 14,500 filling stations throughout Germany. Consumers can find out which models can run on the new types of diesel on the tank cap or in the operating instructions or find out from the manufacturer.

Cannabis legalization affects driving - new THC limits are planned
Another change that will impact driving is the legalization of cannabis. Also from April 1st, THC – the intoxicating active ingredient in cannabis – will no longer be legally classified as a narcotic. As part of this, a new limit value for THC while driving is being set - the ADAC is even introducing a new measurement method for driving ability after cannabis consumption.
Transport Minister Volker Wissing and a commission of experts will decide how high the new limit values for THC behind the wheel will be. What is certain, however, is that the limit will be reduced. According to Wissing, this would put a “consumption ban above traffic law”, which is why the cannabis limits should be relaxed.
“Speed Week” in April: Speed camera marathon for speeders takes place
Anyone who has finally made it into the car and wants to drive off should be careful, because there will be a real speed camera marathon in Germany in April. The ADAC reports that speed checks will be carried out mainly in the week from April 15th to 21st. This is colloquially known as a “speed week”. Speed is measured primarily in areas that are particularly dangerous. These include schools, for example.

Driving too fast is one of the most common causes of accidents, which is why the first federal state now even wants to introduce cell phone speed cameras. So it remains to be seen whether more will change for drivers in the coming months.
