The citizen's allowance is usually paid out on the first of the month. However, since April 1, 2024 falls on Easter Monday, the timing will be postponed.
Frankfurt – Unemployment benefit II, also known as Hartz IV, has no longer existed in Germany since January 1, 2023. Since then, many social welfare recipients have received citizen's benefit, but when will this be paid out in April 2024?
When will citizen's money be paid out in April 2024?
Citizens' money is constantly being discussed throughout Germany. The CDU recently called for tougher measures against citizens' benefit recipients who refuse a reasonable job. A cut in citizens' benefits by around 60 percent would not be compatible with the Basic Law anyway, as the Federal Constitutional Court decided in 2019. In August 2023, almost 5.5 million people in Germany received citizen's benefit, around 1.5 million of whom were unable to work children under the age of 15.

Citizens' benefit recipients should be able to find social assistance in their account on the first of every month. To ensure that this works in most cases, it is always transferred on the last working day of the previous month. This is not possible for April 2024 because April 1st falls on Easter Monday and March 29th 2024 is Good Friday. The citizens' benefit for April 2024 should therefore be transferred by March 28th at the latest.
Citizens' allowance has increased since the beginning of 2024 - this is how it is applied for
If the citizen's money does not arrive on time, those affected can contact the responsible job center. It could just be a delay due to public holidays, but applications that haven't been processed or incorrect bank details can also be the cause. In order to receive citizen's money at all, you have to apply for it. All people who are able to work and are entitled to benefits are eligible to receive benefits. People must prove that they cannot cover their living costs from their own income.
The standard requirements are based on different standards. For example, the standard requirement for single people and single parents (need level 1) is 563 euros. Children from zero to five years of age (needs level 6) receive the lowest standard requirement and receive 357 euros. Since January 1, 2024, these amounts have increased significantly. Since then, standard requirement level 1 has received 61 euros more per month, standard requirement level 6 has received 39 euros more. Citizens' allowance can be applied for at the responsible job center. (
