The Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter was banned for life from the NBA on Wednesday for violating the league's sports betting regulations. The NBA accuses Porter of having revealed "confidential information" to bettors.

In total, the American spent more than $54,000 on bets on matches in which he did not participate, according to the North American league. The league also indicates that the player bet on NBA games on at least thirteen occasions using another person's online account. "There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of the competition for our fans, our teams, and everyone associated with our sport," responded NBA President Adam Silver. "That's why Jontay Porter's 'blatant violations of our rules are being punished in the harshest possible way.'
