Real Madrid beat Manchester City on penalties to reach the semi-finals of the European Cup. Carlo Ancelotti's side will now face Bayern Munich in the last four.

The tie was the first time Real had won at the Etihad in the Champions League. Manchester City have won the last three European Cup ties between the last two champions, all in dramatic fashion. The last two ties have been decided in extra time, with City winning on penalties and with Madrid winning on the stroke of half-time. Madrid have now won all three of their previous European Cup semi-final ties against the Premier League champions. City have now lost two of their last three games in the competition, drawing the other and losing the other on away goals. The Champions League final will be held at the Bernabeu on May 28.
