Five men were sentenced to several years in prison for, among other things, attempted murder. They were part of a group of up to 30 people who caught a fleeing grenade thrower after the attack on June 9th and beat him up.

The attack on June 9th and its consequences are considered the climax in a long series of violence between two rival gangs from the Stuttgart area. It was only through luck that a bloodbath with many deaths was prevented, but at least 15 people were still injured. Experts estimate that more than 500 people, mostly young people, belong to the two groups - one is roughly assigned to the Ess group. The confessed thrower of the hand grenade, an Iranian, was sentenced to twelve years in March for 15 counts of attempted murder, the court said in its verdict on Thursday. The verdicts fell short of the demands of the public prosecutor's office, which had called for youth sentences of between four and six years, while the defense argued for up to four and a half years.
