Pope Francis on Wednesday called for the release of all prisoners of war, specifically mentioning the Holy Land and Ukraine. "The torture of prisoners is a horrible thing; it is not human," he continued.

"We think of so many kinds of torture that wound the dignity of the person and of so many tortured people," he said. "May the Lord help everyone and bless everyone," he added. The meeting was the second of a three-day summit on the state of the world's economies. The event was also held in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, and in the West Bank and Gaza, the latter of which is home to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). The event was also attended by President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
