Gherardo Gambelli, until now parish priest of the church, as archbishop of the Tuscan capital. Originally from Castelfiorentino (Florence), 55 years old, Gambelli was a missionary in Chad for a long time and was also chaplain of the Sollicciano prison.

The appointment was made by the Pope in a letter to the Archbishop of Florence and the Bishop of Florence on May 31st. The new archbishops will be sworn in on June 25th. The archbishop will be the first Italian to hold the post of archbishop in more than 100 years.
