The Georges-Vallerey swimming pool, built for the 1924 Olympic Games, reopens its doors this Thursday. In 1924, it was within these walls that Johnny Weissmuller won four Olympic medals, including three golds.

The aquatic center in the 20th arrondissement has been closed for work since July 2022. Numerous technical improvements have also been made, such as the modernization of the air handling unit, water treatment, heating, better accessibility for the disabled public, etc. As part of a sustainable approach advocated by the Paris 2024 organization, many elements have been reused in order to limit the number of waste, promises the City of Paris. The pool will host swimming, marathon swimming, and triathlon training during the 2024 Olympics in mid-June, before potentially setting new records in the Seine regarding marathon swimming or in the triathlon events. It was the scene of one of the greatest exploits in the history of swimming, when Weissmuller won three gold medals in 1924.
