The iconic spire of the place was consumed by fire, and half of the building was practically consumed. The flames, caused by unknown causes, caused a large part of the roof of the 17th century building to collapse.

Around 135 firefighters, dozens of police officers, and 90 members of the Royal Guard participated in the operation, which included the rescue of the extensive pictorial collection housed in the Stock Exchange building. Hundreds of works were rescued and transferred to the warehouses of the National Museum, which in the next few days will make an inventory to estimate the damage, although the majority of important pieces have been saved. The building is located next to the Parliament headquarters. There were no victims of the fire, which took about eight hours to be controlled. The fire started in the area where repairs were being carried out, although authorities consider it premature to speculate on the cause of the blaze. It is too early to assess the extent of the damage to the building, which is located in the heart of Copenhagen.
