Islamic blessing, prayer room and “Salafist entryism”: violations of secularism at the public university of Mayotte. On January 15, during the greeting ceremony of the university of the overseas department, a Muslim representative pronounced an Islamic prayer and blessed the establishment.
It is strictly forbidden to pray within the walls of public universities, unless an ecumenical room is provided for this purpose, which is not the case here. This type of blessing, called “douha” in Mayotte, is very widespread.
