Confidenza is based on the novel of the same name by Domenico Starnone. In the Eighties, here Pietro Vella is a high school Italian teacher, but also an indecisive, fragile, and ambitious man at the same time.

A very ambiguous bond between Pietro and Teresa that seems to never die, even when the former marries a colleague, Nadia Labaro (Vittoria Puccini), with whom he has a daughter, Emma (as an adult Pilar Fogliati). And it doesn't break even with the entry into Pietro's life at Tilde (Isabella Ferrari), a publisher linked to politics who made him famous and richer thanks to a book. "It's a film that deals with the masks of everyday life and that involves an interior journey like a nineteenth-century Russian novel, but there's also Pirandello and the breakdown of the ego," says Elio Germano.
