Emmanuel Macron will not take advantage of his visit to Marseille on May 8 to participate in a ceremony on the subject. The President of the Republic had for a time considered taking part in the commemorations while he would be visiting Marseille.

Questions of logistics are raised by the Élysée. Some 150,000 people are expected in the Old Port, and the Marseille town hall did not respond to our requests at the time of writing. The commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Marseille will ultimately take place without the Head of State, according to information from Le Figaro Marseille and Le Monde. The event will take place on the same day as the arrival of the Olympic flame in the city's Old Port. The ceremony will be held in front of a crowd of some 150,00 people. The French President will not be present for the event, but will be present at the Olympic torch's arrival in Paris on May 14. The Olympic flame will be on display at the Stade de France in Paris until May 21.
