"The European Council strongly and unequivocally condemns Iran's attack against Israel and renews its full solidarity with the Israeli people and commitment to Israel's security" This can be read in the draft conclusions of the leaders' summit on 17-18 April. An entire chapter on the Middle East was added to the document.

The leaders also renew their desire to "work with partners" to put an end to the crisis in Gaza. "reaching an immediate truce and the release of the hostages" is one of the key goals of the European Council's new Middle East policy. The document asks the parties to "exercise maximum moderation" in dealing with the region. The European Council will meet again in May to discuss further steps to be taken in response to the Iranian attack on Israel. The summit will take place in Brussels, with a follow-up meeting to be held in Paris in June. The meeting will be followed by a summit in Berlin, with the aim of reaching an agreement on a resolution to the Gaza crisis.
