A 16-year-old stabbed a priest and several parishioners at a Christian church in Sydney, Australia. The attack was "a terrorist act", according to Australian Police sources.

The attacker was not on any terrorist watch list, according to police. The incident occurred two days after a bloody raid on a shopping center in the same city that left seven dead. The police chief added that the attacker went "with a certain degree of premeditation" to the Assyrian Church of the Good Shepherd in the Wakeley district, about 30 kilometers southwest of central Sydney. He also assured that it was driven by “religious motivations.” The attack, which occurred around 7:00 p.m. local time (9:00 GMT) on Monday, was carried out while the religious ceremony was broadcast live on social media. The Australian Prime Minister stressed that this attack is " disturbing" and that in his country there is no place "for extremist violence" The attack occurs about 48 hours after another stabbing incident in a shopping centers in the city, which left seven people dead.
