Antonio Ecarri is one of the 12 candidates admitted by the electoral authorities to participate in the presidential elections on July 28. The politician presents himself as a centrist option that advocates ending the chronic conflict between Chavismo and the opposition.

He has, for many people, an interpretation of the Venezuelan crisis similar to that of former Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. "The resurrection of this country cannot be born from blackmail, nor from running at five to 12 to present a candidacy," he says. "Venezuela has a serious trust problem. This will require a governance pact with Chavism," he adds. "I have been criticized for that. We defend the rights of Venezuela in Essequibo, in that we have coincidences, I am a fan of this issue of this border integrity," says the lawyer and former councilor of the Alianza del Lápiz party, who was close to the opposition parties Primero Justicia and Proyecto Venezuela.
