Hannah Gutierrez Reed, 26, was found guilty of reckless homicide in the death of Halyna Hutchins. She worked as a gunsmith during the filming of the film Rust, starring Alec Baldwin, in which Hutchins died.

She was sentenced to 18 months in jail, the same penalty Baldwin will face at his trial next July. Alec Baldwin has already pleaded not guilty, but the star and producer of Rust will be tried in July and faces up to 10 days in prison. The trial began in February and at the hearing prosecutors argued that Hannah Gutierrez Reed had been careless with her work, but she was very inexperienced at the time, they stated. The family of the director of photography is “satisfied” with the outcome, the famous Gloria Allred and John Carpenter have stated, as they say they hope that all others responsible for Halyna’s death have to face the legal consequences of her actions. “I understand that she died too soon, and I pray that everyone finds peace,” Gutierrez Reed said.
