The Ice Saints are days in May known for causing frost damage due to cold air incursions. “Never plant before cold Sophie,” is a well-known farmer’s rule from the hundred-year calendar.

The Ice Saints originally followed the Julian calendar, which was replaced by the Gregorian calendar in the 16th century. If you follow the calendar very carefully, you would have to expect the Ice Saints every 10 days later in May. The first half of May is expected to be mixed this year, but it is supposed to get cooler and sometimes even frosty on May 24th. For the period of May 4th to 15th, the calendar predicts warmer but still mixed weather with occasional thunderstorms and occasional rain. But the calendar is not scientifically proven, it can only serve as a rough weather orientation and can only be used as a guide to the weather. The 100-year Calendar says nothing about whether Ice Saints will bring frost and cold in 2024 and when they will arrive.
