The space industry has reached an inflection point. For decades, it was dominated by rocket, satellite and equipment manufacturers. From now on, it is the non-space industries - automobile, aeronautics, agriculture, logistics, energy, etc. - which are taking over, making massive use of services based on spatial data. In 2023, the cumulative global sales of historical manufacturers were still, at 330 billion dollars, on par with those (300 billion) generated by non-space industries.
But the curve is reversing. The space economy is expected to generate 1,160 billion in turnover in 2030, including 525 billion generated by pure players, according to a report on the “new horizon of the space economy”, published this Tuesday April 9 by the McKinsey firm, in partnership with the World Economic Forum.
