Far fewer people will be interested in how long it took to amend the Penal Code or amend the Police Ordinance. Most of us toil and some would say buried in the Israeli daily routine. But who hasn't heard about the conscription law, about the conversations and outlines, about the various statements and objections. So why is the Israeli public and rightly so preoccupied with this law? Because it is not a law at all. What concerns the public in Israel even without knowing the exact details or at least some of them, this is a systematic change in Genesis, some would say literally.
The conscription law is the title of one of the necessary transformations in the State of Israel in the current century, and with due modesty it must be said that the current war, as difficult and challenging as it may be, did not invent it, nor is it really the reason. There is a certain superficiality in looking at a population, loved or not, and pointing an accusing finger at it without understanding a bit what all this is about, why the situation is really not suitable and why continuity in any form and manner will only make the situation worse in the future and it is already here.
Out of a historical order, known as Torah Amonatam, a group of Avrach was allowed to turn their lives over to the study of the Torah. There is nothing wrong with that and there is even hope that the great generation of the establishment will be preserved even in the next hundred years. By virtue of this approval he receives an allowance and at the same time he is prohibited from working in the free market legally until he reaches the age of exemption. Hence, the military service is only the beginning of a path of life enclosed in an educational institution in the place of residence usually and a low budgeted salary.
Both of these sentence the young man to a ghetto life and an inability to develop personally even at an older age, since he will be forced to leave the educational institution, give up the allowance and find a proper job, thereby getting closer to his counterpart who serves in the army or national service and begins his life in his early twenties.
Do a short exercise and check how many such educational institutions there are in Israel and you will discover that their number exceeds all the secular educational institutions combined. The phenomenon locks entire generations of young people into poor and certain lives, within a closed community. They are at the mercy of the head of the Mossad, whose signature allows them the subsistence allowance.
Now let's start talking about the essence of things. Because there is no direct connection to the core studies, to the quantity and quality of the soldiers of the army or the servants of the national service. This is a parallel course that excludes an entire population that will never leave the boundaries of the neighborhood, will not be open to their free will and will not be able to make a decent living for their families, when most of their descendants will follow exactly the same path, because they do not know another path.

Among them are rabbis, but certainly also talented entrepreneurs, doctors and lecturers, teachers and members of the security forces.
The truth is that a young man's path is up to his choice, perhaps as he chose the Torah as the path of his life, but a conscription law, however good it may be, is not intended increase recruitment for a pilot course or for the armor, it is intended to recruit the youth for the future of the State of Israel.
The closed life in the ultra-orthodox communities is the right of every person to choose, but the right to a livelihood is the duty of a healthy society towards that person who chooses so that he can provide basic services to his family and carry the shared burden together with his fellow citizens of the country in which he lives. The reasons are not religious, secular and ultra-Orthodox and it can be held between Bnei Brak and Beit Alfa.

Finding a common denominator is a historical opportunity and does not disqualify anyone of his choice, not even a young one from studying the Torah, since it is not about recruiting ultra-orthedim to the army, but about recruiting an entire society for the future of the state, a healthy and equal society that carries the burden together in military uniforms or medical staff gowns, in flight coveralls and in the uniforms of the security forces, In civilian clothes of service in the community because we all need all of these.
The concern is reflected in the depth of the crisis and the magnitude of the need. The Israeli company seven plotters and combines, twisting roads to produce a straight and clear road. The control of an entire public through these educational institutions produces and increases differentiation, deepens the lack of understanding and over time eradicates any collective desire for cooperation. The potential is the same at the beginning of the path and long after it, those who are strong in studies are an asset to every profession in Israeli society, diligence and hard work as well, these flourish together in Torah study institutions and will without a doubt improve other institutions and lend a helping hand to society as a whole. None of them is obligated to consume news or purchase a television set, no family will be forced to observe Shabbat differently. The opposite is true, and perhaps you can spread its values to the general public, whoever chooses will choose.
Derech Eretz preceded the Torah and does not conflict with it, such simple words expressing Derech and Eretz. For the non-Orthodox public the path is mostly clear and so is the country. Now we need to make a historical connection between them that is far beyond the conscription law in question. Evaders or exploiters will not come near them, neither crooked ways and magic solutions that are not sure to be implemented.
Only a deep and possibly difficult correction will be able to start and treat once and for all a historical path that does not lead to the country we live in, and to an entire population that can contribute a lot to all of us and no less to itself. This move will increase our courage to deal with other fundamental issues that are on the agenda and the challenging period in which we live is an opportunity and not necessarily the reason for all of these.
