This is welcome help, in a period which remains inflationary and in which the price of electricity is rising. The distribution of the 2024 energy check, sent by the State since 2018 to the 5.6 million poorest households in the country, begins this Tuesday, April 2. It aims to pay “energy bills” (electricity, gas, etc.), finance “the purchase of fuel” or pay for “certain energy work”, explains the Ministry of the Economy on its dedicated page.
Shipments are made in three stages, depending on your department of residence. From April 2 to 5 for the first wave, from April 8 to 12 for the second, from April 16 to 19 for the third and from April 22 to 25 for the last (which concerns the whole of Île-de-France with the exception of Val-d'Oise). Shipments will be spread over two separate weeks in Deux-Sèvres and Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). “The times between sending energy checks and their receipt at the beneficiary's home are generally between 2 and 4 days,” specifies the government.
A simulator set up
The amount, based on the household's tax income, ranges between 48 and 194 euros for a single person earning 11,000 euros per year or less and can go up to 277 euros for a couple with a child. It can be used directly online or by sending it by post to your energy supplier. How to receive it? “If you are eligible, you don’t have to do anything. You will automatically receive your energy check by mail, to the last address indicated to the tax administration,” the Ministry of the Economy responds simply. If you think you are eligible, but you do not receive anything, it will be possible to file a claim after the payments have ended.
That of 2024 “will be valid until March 31, 2025”. For 2023, it had to be used before March 31, 2024. “There remained on March 26 probably around a million beneficiaries who had not used it,” regretted the Ministry of the Economy on March 28.
