“The city of Nice is not intended to welcome a company that does not respect its humanist values ​​and represents a threat to local commerce for which I have always fought,” wrote Mayor Christian Estrosi in a press release.

He therefore contacted the Iera group which manages the restoration site of the Gare du Sud hall, redeveloped into a public media library.

Renato Iera “immediately agreed to cancel the event planned with Shein from April 11 to 14,” thanked the elected official Horizons.

“If, however, the company in question attempted to set up its pop-up store elsewhere in Nice, I will take all measures in my power to prevent it,” he added.

Christian Estrosi follows the line of conduct recommended by the National Assembly.

On March 14, MPs unanimously voted for a bill aimed at curbing the rapid production of low-cost, poor-quality clothing, with a ban on advertising for the sale of cut-price clothing flooding the market and a Reinforced environmental “penalty” to make them less attractive.

The Senate has yet to decide.

Its products are mainly sold online, criticized even if Shein denies it, for practices considered harmful to the environment and its use of underpaid subcontractors.

In the fall, the opening of one of these pop-up stores in Lille had already been the subject of protests.
