The government website Rappel Conso has issued several recalls since Friday for trays of minced steak in which the toxigenic Escherichia coli shiga bacteria was detected, which can have a serious impact on the health of the consumer.

The E. coli bacteria can cause “sometimes bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting, accompanied or not by fever,” recalls the government website.

Most patients recover within 10 days, recalls the World Health Organization, but in the most vulnerable, particularly young children and the elderly, "the infection can progress to a potentially fatal form", with the appearance acute kidney failure, hemolytic anemia (decreased number of red blood cells) and thrombocytopenia (lack of platelets in the blood).

These contaminated products were put on shelves on February 28 and removed on March 5.
