2024-03-15T05:35:42.460Z

Highlights: No milk, but coconut oil and fat…and now, vegan butter. A mixture of sunflower and rapeseed oil, coconut fat and water. A vegetable cousin to the dairy product, but without being margarine. It can be cooked, spread, can be used in baking. It is also 20%, not 5.5% like butter. It's called 'Flora' and it's made in the Netherlands. It was developed by a group of Dutch scientists and engineers. It has been created to replace margarine, which has a higher fat content.

Since the beginning of March, the Dutch industrialist Upfield has been marketing a product based on vegetable oils at Carrefour, different from margari.

Butter which is not butter, but which does everything to appear to be butter.

Flora, that's its name, is a 100% plant-based alternative to butter.

“The consistency as well as the fat content is closer to butter.

We worked on the texture and taste to make it resemble a dairy product.

It can be cooked, spread, can be used in baking,” praises Olivier Blangeard, general manager of Upfield France.

One point nevertheless brings this vegetable product closer to margarine: VAT.

It is also 20%, not 5.5% like butter.
