End of the suspense: the DNA analyzed in the religious community where Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès was allegedly seen turned out to be negative, indicates the Nantes prosecutor's office. This test was carried out following several reports, three people thinking they recognized the fugitive at the monastery of Montferrand-le-Château (Doubs) according to the Republican East.
“I inform you that the analyzes carried out made it possible to extract DNA. This was compared to that of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès,” declared the public prosecutor of Nantes Renaud Gaudeul, in comments relayed by AFP. “The two DNA profiles do not match. The investigating magistrate and the investigation services referred are continuing their investigations and the tedious but careful verifications of all the reports received,” added the prosecutor.
“XDDL” is still wanted in connection with the murder of his wife Agnès and his four children, already 13 years ago, in Nantes in Loire-Atlantique. The bodies of the victims were found under the terrace of the family home.
An inconclusive lead
A first person thought they recognized the suspect's features and came forward to investigators on March 12, followed by two other similar testimonies. According to the public prosecutor of Besançon, they saw Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès on March 9 during a vigil of the Sisters of Bethany in Montferrand-le-Château.
That day, a man calling himself Jean aroused suspicion, explaining that he was part of the “verb of life” community and walking on the paths “without purpose” and without identity, according to information collected by AFP. He then allegedly returned to the road “without giving any explanations” on the morning of March 11.
Following these reports, DNA was taken for analysis, in particular from cans used by the famous Jean, according to the magistrate.
A case still ongoing
The mystery therefore remains intact in the XDDL affair, which has disappeared from the radar since 2011. The investigators had already taken into account the religious trail, by going in particular to the monastery of Saint-Michel-en-Brenne or to the traditionalist abbey of Notre -Dame de Fontgombault in 2021. Without success. Several avenues continue to be explored, such as the hypothesis of suicide following the quintuple murder in Nantes.
But for the moment, the father of the family is still nowhere to be found, and many theories continue to circulate around his evaporation. XDDL's sister, Christine Dupont de Ligonnès, even published a book last March entitled “Xavier: my presumed innocent brother”. She details her intimate conviction that he would have been forced to flee France for the United States, being himself a CIA agent. She remains convinced that the family is alive and well abroad.
As many observers have stated, this thesis goes against the scientific elements associated with the investigation, and does not constitute a serious lead in the case. Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès remains the main suspect in the investigation to this day.
