“Short hike”

Originally from Beaumont-de-Lomagne (Tarn-et-Garonne), the two missing people, aged 58 and 56, have not given any sign of life since they left for a “little hike” in Sao Vicente, on the Portuguese island where they were on vacation, detailed the public prosecutor of Montauban in a press release on Tuesday. “I called my mother for advice regarding my newborn (…) These were the last contacts we had,” she reports.

The couple was on vacation with their other daughter, Johanna, 27. It was she who, not seeing them return even though they had only left with two bottles of water, raised the alarm in the afternoon, according to the public prosecutor.

Testimonial from a trader

The young woman also returned to the progress of the investigation in Madeira and indicated that the local authorities had the testimony of a trader who recognized the woman. A testimony which made it possible to give an “approximate direction of where they had left. »

On the French side, the prosecutor opened a judicial investigation into a worrying disappearance, entrusted to the Castelsarrasin research brigade and the Beaumont-de-Lomagne gendarmerie. The first investigations, including a search of the parents' home and telephone inquiries, did not produce any new elements. “To date, the local judicial police are continuing their investigation and the search continues,” declares the prosecutor.
