An impressive scene in the middle of the street in Rome: two cars fell into a chasm 8 m in diameter and 13 m deep which formed on the cement, before the eyes of some frightened passers-by. The incident occurred during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, around 1 a.m. in the Quadraro district, southeast of the Italian capital. The parked cars were unoccupied at the time of the incident and no pedestrians were traveling. No one was injured, according to authorities. Both vehicles were pulled from the sinkhole and the area was cordoned off.

This type of phenomenon is quite common in the Italian capital which has numerous underground cavities, some of which date back to ancient Rome. In 2021, cars had already been swallowed up in another district of Rome.
