Like all major criminal cases, the disappearance of Émile, 2 and a half years old, which occurred on July 8, 2023 in the isolated hamlet of Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), borrows its elementary codes from classical theater and summons powerful sources of identification. What parent or grandparent has never shuddered when losing sight of their child for even a moment?
Eight months later, the judicial investigation opened for "arbitrary arrest, kidnapping, detention or sequestration of a minor under fifteen years of age" has not yet shed light and three main hypotheses, more or less probable, remain open: fatal accident without the intervention of a third party, a fatal accident caused by a third party and disguised as disappearance or a kidnapping followed or not by a murder.
