At VW, the R models stand for performance.
In the future, the brand will become much more independent.
This will also be evident in the Autostadt from summer onwards.
If you wanted a particularly sporty Seat, you could choose the Cupra versions from Ibiza, Leon and Co. The brand has been standing on its own two feet since 2018 and has been bringing its own vehicles onto the market.
In the near future, Cupra is even expected to expand into the USA.
For the Spaniards, the spin-off of their performance brand was a complete success.
And Volkswagen now wants to repeat this with the R division.

Volkswagen R will rely on electric cars in the future
Cupra could serve as a blueprint.
The Spanish subsidiary is gradually developing into a purely electric car manufacturer.
A goal that is also being pursued with the Volkswagen R in Wolfsburg.
In the future, only electric cars will be built.
Especially since current combustion engine models such as the Tiguan, T-Roc and Golf are also to be electrified.
The new R-Pavillion in the Autostadt is scheduled to open in summer 2024.

Unlike Cupra, Volkswagen R has been an independent brand within the group since the introduction of the Golf R32.
And that is exactly what should be expressed more strongly in the future.
The performance subsidiary will increasingly act more independently, reports the US portal

Volkswagen R gets its own pavilion in the Autostadt
And this can now also be seen in the Autostadt in Wolfsburg.
Several brands from the group – including Lamborghini, Audi and Skoda – already have their own pavilion there.
Volkswagen R will also be represented from summer 2024, as the manufacturer explained in a press release.
“With our high-performance top models, we have established ourselves as an integral part of the Volkswagen model portfolio – in the brand, but also in the group.
With our own pavilion in the Autostadt, we are now taking the next step to further increase awareness,” explains Reinhold Ivenz, Head of Volkswagen R.
