Never two without three ? Not for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta's men proved the adage this Saturday evening by winning their first victory of the week after two consecutive losses. Surprised at home against Aston Villa (0-2) last Sunday then beaten by Bayern Munich (1-0) on Wednesday evening, the Gunners did not tremble for their return to the Premier League after their elimination in the Champions League.
Arsenal players had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the championship ahead of Manchester City, who were playing their FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea this Saturday. And that's what they did. Facing Wolverhampton (11th), who have nothing left to play at the end of the season, the Gunners won a solid victory (2-0). Jostled in the first period, they opened the scoring just before the break thanks to a sumptuous shot into the top corner from Leandro Trossard (45th).
At the very end of the match, Martin Odegaard scored the break goal to seal the victory for his team (90th + 5). A valuable success which allows Arsenal to revive and temporarily take the reins of the Premier League.
The Gunners are in the lead with 74 points, just ahead of Manchester City (73 points) who are therefore one game behind. Liverpool, who will travel to Fulham (12th) this Sunday, remain in ambush with 71 points. The suspense for the title race remains intact with five days to go.
