The footballer of the Iranian national team, Ramin Razian, praised the Iranian attack tonight (between Saturday and Sunday) on Israel. Razian wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account: "We are the Iranian people and we do not pay ransom to anyone. Long live Iran."
Beneath his tweet, Razian pasted a picture of soldiers/knights on horses and carrying the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran - which earned him criticism from other tweeters who reminded him that "this is not the flag of Iran!".
Many Iranian citizens oppose the fundamentalist mob rule, but street protests have for many years been met with murderous violence by the police and Revolutionary Guards affiliates. That is why many take the opposition to the government to social networks.
"Stupid, this is not the flag of Iran!", someone responded to Razian's post, "Pray that Israel acts wisely and does not respond stupidly like you - otherwise you and your family will have to seek refuge."
Another tweeter responded: "You don't pay a ransom? You pay a ransom to the mob rule all your life." Another added: "Shut up you filth. Your post is meant to get money from the authorities, piece of garbage. Don't mix historical Iran with the Islamic Republic."
Others wrote: "This is the flag of the Islamic Republic, not the flag of Iran. Only the stupidest people are happy when their country is dragged into war."
Others scoffed at the photo: "These are Roman soldiers, not Iranians. Shut up and don't associate this flag with the history of Iran."
The 34-year-old Razian was recently chosen as the "footballer of the season" in the Iranian league. He wore the uniform of the Iranian national team 65 times and represented it in the World Cups in 2018 and 2022. Besides the Iranian league, he also played for the Turkish Breezspor, the Belgian Ostend and several teams in Qatar.
