Spring is here and many gardeners have already put on their gloves, ready to spruce up their outdoors. Be careful, however, not to

There's nothing like enjoying the first days of spring in your garden. If effort and regularity are the main keys to having a pleasant exterior, a little basic knowledge will prevent you from making potentially fatal mistakes. Here are ten traps to avoid, according to the site

Prune too early

Can't stand the messy nature? However, it is better to wait for young shoots to appear before removing dead branches from your shrubs. Pruning too early risks limiting their vigor.

Over-fertilizing the soil

Since plants have stored reserves in the fall, they rarely need fertilizer in early spring. To avoid burning their foliage, fertilize the soil after flowering.

Plant before May 15

The saying “In May, do what you please” does not completely apply in the garden, since it is rather advisable to wait until May 15 to plant. By this time, the last frosts of the year are supposed to be behind us.

Cut back the foliage

During the spring, some amateur gardeners may be bothered by the bulky foliage of daffodils, tulips or even colchicums. If you want the bulbs to flower properly again, it is best not to give in to the temptation to cut off their leaves.

Scrape the lawn

If you decide to scrape your lawn while your soil is still waterlogged and not completely dry, you risk compacting it. This can then risk lacking air, which encourages the proliferation of weeds.

Planting deciduous shrubs

Deciduous shrubs, such as oak, plane tree, maple, elm or birch, are not planted in spring but in autumn. Indeed, the latter need to develop their roots before revealing their leaves.

Multiply bulky plants

It is better to find out beforehand about the space that the plants you plan to plant will occupy. Indeed, if they are too tight together, they risk not being able to develop optimally.

Watering at the wrong time

Watering is one of the pillars of spring gardening, as plants need plenty of water to grow. Prefer watering in the morning because in the evening, temperatures are generally still too cool.

Trim your hedges after March 15

It is strongly recommended not to trim your hedges after March 15. Indeed, the beginning of spring corresponds to the nesting period for birds. You therefore risk injuring the birds or damaging their habitat.

Poorly cleaning your tools

Remember to disinfect your pruning shears and your various tools when you prune your dead branches or maintain your plants. This will prevent any contamination if one of your plants is sick.
