“People with bad intentions” would have stolen parts of the attraction, indicates the public prosecutor. Two men put in

The investigation into the death of a fairground worker at the Caen Easter Fair has experienced a new twist. Parts of the ride where the accident took place would have “disappeared”, noted the legal expert responsible for examining the attraction.

“We obviously tried to hide evidence from us,” said Joël Garrigue, the public prosecutor for our colleagues in Ouest-France. To France 3, he affirmed that “people with ill intentions made these documents disappear to hide them from the investigation”. These pieces were apparently present on the ride at the opening of the funfair on April 12.

The attraction placed under seal

Two men, the owner of the ride and an employee responsible for operating it, were taken into custody on Tuesday. Presented to an investigating judge on Thursday, they were both indicted for manslaughter. The owner was also indicted for concealed work while the victim, presented as the manager of the attraction, was not administratively declared as such.

They were released and placed under judicial supervision pending their trial. The prosecutor, who had requested their placement in pre-trial detention, appealed this decision. The ride, placed under seal, remains immobilized.

The accident occurred on Sunday April 14 during handling work on a thrill ride, the Speed Mouse. A 63-year-old man had a serious fall while carrying out handling work around 4 p.m. Transported to Caen University Hospital in serious condition, he died in hospital.
