The scooter shooter now sleeps behind bars. A 17-year-old teenager, suspected of being the perpetrator of an ultra-violent attack which left one victim on March 25 in the northern districts of Nantes, was apprehended during a police operation and then indicted for “ attempted murder,” announced the prosecution of the judicial court on Thursday. Arrested on April 10 at his home by agents of the Organized and Specialized Crime Division, the young man turned out to be already known to the justice system. Well known even, since he had already recently been convicted of several drug cases.
The accused was placed in pre-trial detention. Faced with investigators, the teenager admitted to being the author of the shot but invoked self-defense. An explanation deemed not very credible by the prosecution, which notes that it contradicts the victim's account as well as that of a witness to the attack, confirms to Le
Figaro
the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul.
A mysterious motive
The attack took place on Boulevard Albert-Einstein, in the vicinity of the Nantes detention center, in the north of the city. In the middle of the afternoon, the suspect appeared on a scooter next to a 22-year-old Malian before opening fire with a handgun. The motive for the attack remains a mystery. The victim, discovered on the ground by the police, was shot in the abdomen. She was transported in serious condition to the Nantes University Hospital, where she is still, without her life being in danger.
The weapon used in the attempted murder was not found by investigators. This attempted murder on a scooter, however, once again illustrates the
“trivialization”
of the use of firearms by increasingly young delinquents in the city, regrets the public prosecutor of Nantes.
