Tourism projects haven't really worked out in Mittenwald so far. On Thursday, however, a long dry spell ended with the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony for the lifestyle hotel on Ladestrasse East. The Dutch make it possible.

– “The hardest birth gives birth to the most beautiful children.” A poet seems to have been lost in Wim ten Brinke. He is the managing director of the international project development and construction company of the same name, which is once again giving the tourist resort of Mittenwald a hotel after a long dry spell. Mayor Enrico Corongiu (SPD) is fully aware of the scope of this construction project. “A milestone for our town,” emphasized the town hall boss at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.
But until the time came and Corongiu and Co. could grab the obligatory shovel in a media-friendly manner, there was a rocky road ahead for the Ten Brinke Group, which has been wanting to exploit the wasteland on Mühlenweg since 2019. Initially, however, the Mittenwald operation was not under a good star - Corona, the Ukrainian war, the energy crisis, rising interest rates. Last year, Ten Brinke, or rather its subsidiary GH Mittenwald GmbH & Co. KG - GH stands for commercial building - ventured into Ladestraße Ost.
The project developers were always able to rely on successful cooperation with the market town council, which finally and unanimously launched the two- to three-star lifestyle hotel at the end of October.
The concept and location couldn't be better chosen.
Mayor Enrico Corongiu
Yesterday, when Enrico Corongiu stood on the huge inner-city construction site while an excavator was already digging around in the background, he became downright euphoric. “What a special day. Now it's starting, now it's getting serious.” Former mayor Adolf Hornsteiner (CSU) in the audience, who initiated the million-dollar project over five years ago, was probably also satisfied. Now his successor can reap the rewards. And he clearly enjoyed doing it. “This is an important construction project for the Alpenwelt Karwendel and the Mittenwald market,” said Corongiu. “The concept and location couldn’t be better chosen.” In its press release, the Ten Brinke Group expresses what the town hall boss is aiming for: “Overnight accommodation and shopping with a view of the Karwendel Mountains.”
The French economy hotel chain “B & B” will provide accommodation in the future. Their hotels are generally operated with less financial and human resources and are therefore considered to be so-called low-budget hotels. On the ground floor, after the planned completion at the beginning of 2026, the EDEKA group will supply locals and guests with food. Given the magnificent view of the Karwendel, this is no problem, says District Administrator Anton Speer (Free Voters). “People buy twice as much.”
The Unterammergauer said something more seriously to Wim ten Brinke and his business partners: “The district is proud that they are investing here. Thank you for your perseverance and trust.” The hotel project in Mittenwald will continue to be supported “as best as possible” by the district office. “Because tourism here brings a highlight – that is a highlight!”

EDEKA

move into almost the entire area of around 2000 square meters on the ground floor. Two additional full floors and the roof floor with a total area of 4,400 square meters offer space for hotel guests. There are 108 parking spaces with e-charging stations planned outside. Heat and electricity are largely obtained via an air-water heat pump and a photovoltaic system.
Ten Brinke
– 1,300 employees, 1.2 billion annual sales – is a family-run project development and construction company with branches in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Greece. Ten Brinke acquired the area on Ladestrasse East over five years ago. To date, a heating oil business and later a building materials company was housed there. Ten Brinke developed the area and sold it at the beginning of 2024 to LLB Immo KAG, the real estate investment company of Liechtensteinische Landesbank (Österreich) AG.
