Three Filipino foreign workers died in unprecedented floods earlier this week in the United Arab Emirates, where traffic remained disrupted on Friday at Dubai airport. Two women died in the emirate of Dubai and a man died in Sharjah, the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers said in a statement released Thursday evening.
“The two women died of asphyxiation inside their vehicle during the floods
,” the statement said, and
“the third victim died from serious injuries sustained when her vehicle fell into a sinkhole
. ”
These three deaths bring to at least four the number of deaths in the floods caused by torrential rains in this desert Gulf country. Emirati police announced the death of a 70-year-old man whose vehicle was swept away by water in Ras al-Khaimah.
Impressive floods in Dubai
The storm hit the Emirates and Bahrain on Monday and Tuesday, after hitting Oman, another Gulf country, where 21 people, including several children, were killed. The record rains never seen in the Emirates have caused impressive flooding, particularly in Dubai, the tourist and financial center of the country, where several roads are still blocked.
