After the election is before the election - last Thursday the local branch of the CSU Benediktbeuern-Bichl held its annual general meeting and looked all the way to Europe.
Benediktbeuern/Bichl – The evening got off to an exciting start. Hans-Otto Pielmeier, local leader of the CSU Benediktbeuern-Bichl, made it very clear. The differences within the Benediktbeuern administrative community also concern the local association: “In my opinion, the collaboration is going well and a separation would be too expensive anyway,” Pielmeier is certain. “Disagreements between the two mayors are almost a tradition.” He was more worried about “attacks by individual people from the side,” and he noted that one should not allow himself to be incited.
Call to vote in the European elections
Another topic that, from the perspective of the local group in Benediktbeuern, receives far too little attention is social housing: “The community has acquired a lot of land in recent years, but has not used it. “In view of the foreseeable financial situation, the tied up capital is a problem for the coming budget,” predicted Pielmeier. “This urgently needs to be improved.” The third point he highlighted was the upcoming new accommodation for 80 refugees in Benediktbeuern. He asked to remain calm in the discussion: “We as the CSU parliamentary group have declared our solidarity, but I made it clear: nothing more is possible.”

One of the highlights of the evening was the lecture by Thomas Holz, who entered the Bavarian state parliament in 2023 as a district representative for Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. After a brief description of his activities, he gave an overview of current political issues. He agreed with Hans-Otto Pielmeier's report and drew the members' attention, above all, to the situation of the district budget: "In 2024 we will get away with a black eye, 2025 will be difficult." He then concluded his presentation with the call for the European elections to go to vote and this led directly to the next point.
CSU European candidate Severin Eichenseer introduces himself
Severin Eichenseer introduced himself to the local association as a candidate for the European elections. He took a position on European issues and the upcoming European elections. Even though the EU was founded as a huge peace project, it is facing bigger problems than ever before. The “era of prosperity is over,” he made it clear, taking up the warnings of previous speakers. He highlighted the changed situation since the start of the Ukraine war, the asylum problem and the bureaucracy's obstacles to progress. And in order to find solutions, he called for solidarity among one another: “All political levels must work together – from the municipality to the Council of Europe,” he emphasized. The lively discussion among the members at the end of the lectures once again made the explosiveness of the topics and the hope for a solution very clear.
