Highlights: The Schongauer Schmid GmbH, which previously ran UPM's company canteen for over 40 years, is moving to the empty Rohrmoser butcher shop in Peiting. The company has been running UPM's company canteen for over 40 years. The in-house butcher shop also supplies the V markets with sausage products. This also ends the collaboration with UPM, on whose factory premises the company has previously been based. The move to the market town represents a turning point for the Schongau family business of Helmut Schamper and his wife Simone Schmid-Schmid. The new tenant is anything but an unknown in the region, says the building contractor Christoph Berger, who is all the happier that they have now found someone who not only has a name in the area but also makes good sausage. The search for a tenant was not easy, Berger looks back, but he is optimistic about the local newspaper's coverage of the story. The story is now also available in our regular SchongAU newsletter.

The sparrows have been whistling it from the rooftops for a while, and now the decision has officially been made: Schongauer Schmid GmbH, which previously ran the UPM canteen, is moving to the empty Rohrmoser butcher shop in Peiting.

The sparrows have been whistling it from the rooftops for a while, and now the decision has officially been made: Schongauer Schmid GmbH, which previously ran the UPM canteen, is moving to the empty Rohrmoser butcher shop in Peiting.

Peiting - The former traditional Rohrmoser butcher's shop in the center of Peiting has been empty for more than a year now, after the then owner surprisingly closed the shop and then also production. When the building complex found a new owner in Hohenpeißenberg building contractor Christoph Berger last summer, he fueled the people of Peitingen's hope that life would soon return to the empty rooms. Berger had a butcher and a baker in mind as tenants. They wanted to see that something happened quickly, the building contractor was optimistic about the local newspaper at the time.

Nine months later, Berger can now report enforcement – at least as far as the butcher is concerned. What has been a rumor circulating in the market town for a few weeks is now official: the Schongau company Schmid GmbH is taking over the traditional Peitinger butcher shop. The new tenant is anything but an unknown in the region. The company has been running UPM's company canteen for over 40 years. The in-house butcher shop also supplies the V markets with sausage products.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

The search for a tenant was not easy, Berger looks back. He is all the happier that they have now found someone who not only has a name in the region, but also makes good sausage. “This is a win-win situation for Peiting.”

For the Schongau family business of Helmut Schamper and his wife Simone Schmid-Schamper, the move to the market town represents a turning point. Because this also ends the collaboration with UPM, on whose factory premises the company has previously been based.

Sausage specialties and warm dishes

At the end of September, the paper manufacturer gave notice of termination as of June 30th, says Helmut Schamper, whose father-in-law Werner Schmid founded the company four decades ago. The reason was that UPM wanted to restructure the canteen's operations. Since the building that the butcher shop currently uses is getting old, the Schmid-Schampers decided to make a new start in their home community of Peiting.

Production in the new rooms is scheduled to start as early as July 1st - a very tight schedule, because everything has to be brought into shape by then. “Ceilings, walls, floors, everything has to be redone,” says Schamper. Renovation work has been underway since Easter.

New life should come to the store as quickly as possible, which should make the people of Peiting particularly happy. It remains to be seen whether things will work out in July. “Production has priority.” The Schmid-Schampers primarily want to sell their own sausage specialties, and there will also be a choice of two warm dishes per day, which can either be taken away or eaten on site. “We are planning 15 to 20 seats.” The company already has a small sale at its current location. All 15 employees also remain on board. “It was important to us that there were no layoffs as a result of the move,” said Schamper.
