A fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the historic building of the former Copenhagen Stock Exchange, also called Børsen. The latter's emblematic spire, 54 meters high, collapsed. “
We are facing a terrible spectacle. The stock market is on fire. Everyone is asked to stay away from the area around Slotsholmen
,” responded the Danish Chamber of Commerce Dansk Erhverv.
Emergency services are on site, with fire trucks surrounding the building. “
Because of a
fire
in Børsen, we are massively present in the center of Copenhagen
,” the capital's police said on the social network X (formerly Twitter), specifying that they had blocked parts of the city to traffic.
This building is one of the most iconic historic buildings in the Danish capital. Commissioned by King Christian IV, the Copenhagen Stock Exchange was built between 1619 and 1640. The building now houses the Danish Chamber of Commerce, near the Parliament.
