A large fire in the former Copenhagen Stock Exchange, dating back to the 17th century, caused the spire of the historic building, which was undergoing renovation, to collapse. The 54-metre spire disappeared in the flames at Borsen, which was commissioned by King Christian IV and built between 1619 and 1640.
Located next to the Danish Parliament, Christiansborg Palace, the building housed the stock exchange until the 1970s and it currently serves as the headquarters of the Danish Chamber of Commerce. Police said on X that they had blocked off parts of the city center to fight the fire. “We are witnessing a terrible spectacle,” said the Danish Chamber of Commerce. The building, one of the oldest in the Danish capital, was under renovation when it caught fire. The causes of the fire are currently unknown.
