The weather in Germany reaches its peak on the Easter weekend. On Holy Saturday, however, this is accompanied by Sahara dust.

Munich – The Easter Bunny does things like Santa Claus. He gives out or hides gifts and is perfectly adept at not letting himself be seen. That could be particularly easy for him this year. Not because at Easter - as is usual for some years - there is an onset of winter and snowfall. But because the mild March is said to have a weather phenomenon at the end that could, to make matters worse, cause respiratory problems.

Weather in Germany: Sahara dust and up to 25 degrees expected on Holy Saturday

Weather expert Dominik Jung predicts Sahara dust for Germany on Holy Saturday as a result of the mild air masses. At the same time, given the weather forecast, he believes it is possible that it will be the first day of summer weather. Up to 25 degrees are possible.

Georg Haas from

wetter.com

also warns of “a lot of Sahara dust in the air” in his weather forecast for Germany. In the Alps there is a “strong foehn storm with a strong southerly current. This is exactly how the desert dust from North Africa comes directly to us in Germany via the Mediterranean. The Sahara dust concentration is remarkably high there.”

For Jung, the Saharan dust “tips the scales a bit. It obscures the sunlight, sometimes it is hazy and hazy.” It is uncertain “where exactly the maximum temperatures will land”.

Weather at Easter: Saharan dust can be problematic for people with respiratory diseases

In any case, according to the weather forecast for Germany, the day between the holidays has the best chance of delivering the highest values. Jung explains about Saharan dust: “It can cloud the sky and slow down warming a little. Therefore, we have to wait and see whether it will be 24.5 degrees or 25.1 degrees.” Similar air masses in midsummer would give us up to 35 degrees.

But the Sahara dust is not entirely harmless, as the qualified meteorologist from

warns in his weather forecast: “It can affect air quality by releasing fine dust particles into the air, which can be particularly problematic for people with respiratory diseases.”

Sahara dust over Germany: “Can really dirty car paint and car windows”

Another side effect could also become a nuisance: “The dust sometimes falls out of the atmosphere with rain, it is also referred to as blood rain. This in turn can particularly dirty car paint and car windows.” This would then result in more intensive vehicle cleaning because the dust particles are stubborn.

Basically, Saharan dust occurs in this country when the winds in the Sahara become stronger. This is regularly the case, especially in spring and summer. But sometimes even in January. The extent can be completely different.

Weather forecast for Easter in Germany: temperatures are falling – “Easter Monday is largely a failure”

Overall, Jung expects temperatures between 17 and 25 degrees for Holy Saturday, but later there will also be showers and thunderstorms. A mix of sunshine and clouds will follow on Easter Sunday at 14 to 22 degrees, with hardly any showers.

At the end of the long weekend, temperatures of twelve to 21 degrees will be served on Easter Monday, but with lots of clouds and occasional precipitation. “Easter Monday will then largely fall into the water,” says Jung, who fears there will be little spring-like weather.

Once the Easter Bunny has hopped away again, the temperatures will also drop a little. Jung predicts eight to 14 degrees for Tuesday, along with showers. On Wednesday, Germany will get ten to 15 degrees with sunshine, clouds and also rain showers.

Weather forecast for the coming days according to Dominik Jung

Day

Weather forecast

Holy Saturday (March 30)

17 to 25 degrees, very warm, later showers and thunderstorms, first summer day of the year possible

Easter Sunday (March 31st)

14 to 22 degrees, a mix of sunshine and clouds, hardly any showers

Easter Monday (April 1st)

12 to 21 degrees, lots of clouds and occasional showers

Tuesday (April 2nd)

8 to 14 degrees, mixed, cooler and showery weather

Wednesday (April 3rd)

10 to 15 degrees, sometimes sunshine, sometimes clouds and rain showers, still cooler than at Easter

Weather in spring and summer: High temperatures and a lot of precipitation forecast

According to the weather forecast in Germany, there is no real relapse to be feared: “The next ten to 14 days will not bring late winter.” Rather, April will be mild and changeable: “Rain keeps falling.” Especially in the middle, in the west and In the south, April could be “significantly wetter than usual”.

Alban Burster from wetter.com

also underlines the heat and wet forecast

: “This weather situation will bring warm air to us in Germany over the course of April. This will be more the case to the south than to the north.” In the south, temperatures can even exceed 25 degrees.

The prospects for the next few months look similar. “The summer of 2024 is also expected to be significantly warmer than usual,” exults Jung, but then adds: “Months can always be quite wet. This indicates heavy precipitation events, often showers, thunderstorms and storms with heavy rain.” It's a good thing that the Easter Bunny has long since left by then.
