- At the district's sports awards ceremony in the Peißenberg Tiefstollenhalle, it wasn't just the successful athletes who were honored. Wolfgang Filser, who has been a trainer at TSV Schongau since 1968, also received a special honor.
“His goal as a coach was and always is to introduce everyone to their personal Olympics,” said Fabian Schmähling, the BLSV district youth leader, in his laudatory speech, praising the versatile coach, who included former ice hockey professional Thomas Oppenheimer and also some Olympians trained in the region.
Appeal to former athletes to make themselves available as trainers
“At the age of 79, Wolfgang is still present in all sports, whether football, handball, athletics or ice hockey, as a team and individual coach,” Schmähling praised the honoree, who then made a passionate appeal to those present. “I hope that many athletes continue as trainers after their active time,” said Filser, who himself had his next assignment as a trainer trainer the day after the honor.
