At the annual meeting of the Ammerland water rescue service, people joked, looked back and looked forward to future work. There are plenty of them.

Münsing - The chairman of the Ammerland water rescue service, Alarich von Schlichting, recently opened the local group's annual meeting in front of around 50 participants. According to a water rescue press release, Münsing's third mayor, Regina Reitenhardt, was among those present. She thanked the volunteer rescuers: “Your work increases the feeling of safety in our community.”

Ammerland: “Gallic village of the district water rescue service” is hoping for donations after “massive damage”.

Martin Uerkvitz, board member of the BRK district association, agreed with Reitenhardt on this point. “Impressive figures from the Gallic village of the Kreiswasserwacht,” he said with a wink. District Water Watch Chairman Heinz Eger asked that the focus continue to be on youth work. Von Schlichting guided the members through figures, facts and data.

The technical manager Michael Döhla then took over. He showed that both waking hours and alerts have increased. Döhla also pointed out that in 2023 many volunteer hours would again go into further training.

The technical manager also addressed an unpleasant topic: around Christmas time, storms caused “massive damage” to the water rescue hut and two motor rescue boats. Döhla: “We are facing large amounts of money here. Without donations we will have real difficulties.”

Meike Döhla, however, reported on the seahorse group: 62 children attended a seahorse course in the Geretsried indoor swimming pool last year. Children and youth work also ran successfully at the water rescue service in 2023. New leaders were found for the respective groups here.

Nature conservation officer Thomas Wendler made it clear that, in addition to the fight against giant hogweed, the nature reserve north of Ammerland was also a constant topic. “The consideration is becoming less, those seeking relaxation disturb the birds, fish and plants here.” He asked that patrols in the area continue and that environmental violators be informed. Tanja von Schlichting presented pleasing figures in her cash report: “We are within the black zero, not many can do that.”

At the end, member honors were on the agenda: Meike Döhla (20 years of service), Tanja von Schlichting and Claudia Bauer (both 30 years of service) received an award. Hüttenwart Wendler was named “Best Man 2023”. “He has not only held his protective hand over the properties for decades, but has also fundamentally built up and shaped the local group’s nature conservation work,” the letter says.

“We are looking forward to the coming season and would like to thank the members, the community and our fellow citizens for their support,” with these words the chairman ended the event.
