These are two videos published in quick succession, during January, on TikTok. Each has the same title: “The cheapest kebab in France for 3.50 euros”. Enough to attract Internet users in these times of austerity... Result, more than 1.3 million views in total. And this question: how can a kebab with fries (still) be 3.50 euros in 2024? The restaurant in question is located in Corbeil-Essonnes, very close to the RER station. So we wanted to go see. And we saw.
From the outside, the Izmir restaurant, rue du Général-Leclerc, doesn't look much. Here, no garish decor or seductive neon, but a simple sign on a red background and a menu with slightly faded photos. The essentials, nothing but the essentials. And this promise that we look twice to verify: the kebab (veal or chicken) with fries is priced at 3.50 euros.
