Highlights: “No plan”: Scholz rules out collaboration with Wagenknecht. “The BSW has no suggestions for a better future in the countries and no plan for where Germany should head,” says Chancellor. In the three federal states that are holding state elections in September - Saxony, Brandenburg and Thuringia - the SPD has so far had a bad hand. In surveys, the party only received more votes (17 percent) than the BSW (13) in Brandenburg, where it leads the black-red-green coalition.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has spoken out against cooperation between the SPD and the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance - despite sympathy in the Taurus debate.

Berlin – Five months before the state elections in Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has categorically ruled out cooperation with the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). With regard to the opportunities for his own party, Scholz particularly emphasized the economic growth in Brandenburg under the SPD-led state government.

“The BSW has no suggestions for a better future in the countries and no plan for where Germany should head,” said Olaf Scholz in an interview with the

Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung (MAZ)

. There is “nothing at all” to suggest collaboration with the party of the former Left Party leader. Wagenknecht had recently sympathized with Scholz when she praised his rejection of Taurus deliveries to Ukraine last week in the Bundestag as a “responsible decision”. However, the Chancellor says he considers a state government with the participation of the BSW and SPD to be unlikely: “No, that is beyond my imagination.”

Survey results: SPD has bad cards – BSW is ahead

In the three federal states that are holding state elections in September - Saxony, Brandenburg and Thuringia - the SPD has so far had a bad hand. In the surveys, the party only received more votes (17 percent) than the BSW (13) in Brandenburg, where it currently leads the black-red-green coalition. Given the current figures, the current government coalition no longer has the necessary support among the population for a majority. As in Saxony and Thuringia, the front runner is the AfD (28 percent).

Nevertheless, in the

MAZ

interview, Chancellor Scholz refers to the “excellent record” of the Brandenburg government under Dietmar Woidke (SPD), who has been in office as Prime Minister for almost 11 years. “Brandenburg is currently experiencing extraordinary economic growth,” said Scholz. This doesn't just have to do with the Tesla car factory, but with many industrial settlements overall.

Wagenknecht: BSW regional association will be founded in May at the latest

“Basically, we have to ensure for all of Germany that we still have jobs with good wages in ten, 20 and 30 years,” the

MAZ

quoted the Chancellor as saying. A lot is currently being built “in the east” of Germany. Scholz refers to automobile factories, battery factories and the production of semiconductors. “Germany will become the largest semiconductor location in Europe.”

According to its own statements, the BSW will not yet run as an independent party in the local elections in Brandenburg in June. This is because the founding of the state association in Brandenburg is still ongoing, said Wagenknecht, according to the

Tagesspiegel

. According to

dpa

, the BSW founder spoke of founding the company by the beginning of May at the latest.
