The Hohenkammer boys' club has to put on a theater once a year. And because the curtain went up for the first time 100 years ago, there is a big anniversary on Easter Sunday.

Hohenkammer

– In 1924 the curtain went up on the Hohenkammer boys’ club for the first time. At least that's what the club's oldest records say - and that's why the boys' theater group is celebrating the 100th stage anniversary of the club, which has existed for 128 years, at this year's theater “Da Schipedupfer”.

At that time, the five-act folk theater “Jennerwein's End” was performed. In the turmoil of the Second World War, many club documents were lost, so that the club's theater history was only documented again from 1947. The importance of this activity can be found in the association's statutes, which are still in force today. It says that the boys' club performs theater once a year and otherwise the club must be dissolved. Of course, this rule did not apply during the corona pandemic.

The majority have a family history

The majority of the current actors have a family history of parents, grandparents or great-grandparents who have already played in theatre. This time the Hammerl family is even there with two generations. The board members Michael (chairman) and Franz (secretary) are on stage as actors, while the father Franz senior. is a former actor and director. The boys' theater is part of the Hohenkammer family history.

The boys' club once played in the Alte Post inn in the center of town, which has since been demolished and replaced by the meadow in the center. In 1985, the association moved with the times and made the multi-purpose hall at the school its new theater home. There you have all sorts of spatial options - and the boys' club takes advantage of them. In 2019, theaters were played with four different stages.

The comedy in five acts “Da Schipedupfer” by Peter Landsdorfer takes place in Haiperting in the heart of southern northern Bavaria near the border with Hungarian Switzerland. The Schipedupfer King is determined there, and the people of Hohenkammer can be there up close.

Good to know

There are traditionally no advance sales for the performances in the multi-purpose hall. There are enough seats for the performances on Easter Sunday (March 31st) at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., Easter Monday (April 1st) at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 6th at 8 p.m.
