An 18-year-old young man died and another is in very serious condition
after falling into the void while trying to escape a brutal
fire
in the 12th floor apartment
where they lived in the
Nueva
Córdoba
neighborhood of the provincial capital. A third young man was rescued in time by firefighters.
It all happened at dawn, around 4:30, in a building located on Yrigoyen Street, in Córdoba. The three young people
had arrived just a month ago from Jujuy
to study at the National University of Córdoba.
Fire Chief Sergio Cravero told Channel 12 that the young man who was rescued explained that they were
surprised by the flames while they were sleeping
and since the apartment door was
blocked by the fire
, they tried to escape through a window.
An attempt is still being made to determine what caused the fire, but two of the young people decided to hang from a window to escape the flames and fell into the void, while the other was rescued by firefighters.
The young man rescued by firefighters managed to go down to the next floor through a ledge. His companions fell into an internal courtyard
from a height of nearly 30 meters
.
